About 2 years ago a buddy of mine decided he was going to immerse himself into the art of Jiu Jitsu. He never really gave a reason why. He never showed any interest in it before that I knew of, and he doesn’t really seem the Jiu Jitsu type, I guess you could call it. But he did it, and continues to do it. And I’ve realized over the last year or so that this wasn’t some sort of fun way for him to lose weight, or practice in order to kick someone’s ass, or an adventure in something new (although it is a little bit of all of those). No, this has been a life changer for him. And it’s evident in not only his physical being, but his presence, his posture. He’s got that quiet confidence, you know? That grin that says “I’m at peace and you are my friend. And I can destroy you.” I know. I put on a gi and tried to keep up with him and he swatted me like a fly. Smiling of course.
